Old Material / New Thought
My current work is a reductive look at Fissures, Faults and Rifts - defects in the Earth’s crust as a result of tremendous geological forces. I’m always taken by the texture, color and contrasts generated by the events that have shaped the earth. Whether the forces are seismic or weather related, the results have been a source of inspiration.
As materials and processes have been a large part of my working life, I take great pleasure in using the most basic materials offered up by the earth. The simple fact that the Lead I use today was originally deposited some four and a half billion years ago as Radium, is still a captivating thought. Tar, another favorite material of mine, is resultant of the Jurassic period some sixty million years ago. I sincerely hope my choice of materials lends credibility to the narrative of my work.
